Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in a Group of Treament-Resistant Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Patients: A Descriptive Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) treatment in a group treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients and examine relationship between various sociodemographic clinical variables response. Materials Methods: Data including The Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) scores characteristics 27 OCD who received 30 sessions low-frequency rTMS (LF-rTMS) on left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) were analyzed. Results: Mean Y-BOCS decreased significantly across week 0 3rd (t(26)=10.59, p<.001) continued decrease weeks 3 6 (t(26)=11.47, p<.001). 21(78%) responders with at least %25 mean scores, 10(47.6%) these 21 also met complete response criteria 35% or more reduction Y-BOCS. No significant difference was observed non-responders regarding variables. only reported side headaches local scalp tenderness, which improved short time. Conclusion: descriptive has demonstrated efficacy long-duration LF-rTMS application DLPFC drug-resistant patients. finding might contribute available literature, especially drawing out standardized protocol cases.

Effect of prefrontal repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in obsessive-compulsive disorder: a preliminary study.
OBJECTIVE Prefrontal mechanisms are implicated in obsessive-compulsive disorder. The authors investigated whether prefrontal repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation influenced obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms. METHOD Twelve patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder were given repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (80% motor threshold, 20 Hz/2 seconds per minute for 20 minu...
متن کاملRandomized sham-controlled trial of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder.
In open trials, 1-Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the supplementary motor area (SMA) improved symptoms and normalized cortical hyper-excitability of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Here we present the results of a randomized sham-controlled double-blind study. Medication-resistant OCD patients (n=21) were assigned 4 wk either active or sham rTMS to t...
متن کاملRight prefrontal repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in obsessive-compulsive disorder: a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.
OBJECTIVE The efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the right prefrontal cortex for patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was studied under double-blind, placebo-controlled conditions. METHOD Patients were randomly assigned to 18 sessions of real (N=10) or sham (N=8) rTMS. Treatments lasted 20 minutes, and the frequency was 1 Hz for both conditions, bu...
متن کاملTheta-burst repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder with concomitant depression.
To the Editor: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a potential therapy for major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder that acts by modulating cortical activities. 3 have developed a novel paradigm of theta-burst stimulation (TBS)—low-intensity bursts of rTMS at 50 Hz—as a safer, more controllable, more consistent, and longer-lasting rTMS. The continuous TBS (...
متن کاملSleep disturbances in obsessive-compulsive disorder: Association with non-response to repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).
Background Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a promising augmentation strategy for treatment-refractory OCD. However, a substantial group still fails to respond. Sleep disorders, e.g. circadian rhythm sleep disorders (CRSD), are highly prevalent in OCD and might mediate treatment response. The aims of the current study were to compare sleep disturbances between OCD patients...
